Step-by-Step USA Student Visa (F-1) Process

Phase 1: University Admission & I-20

  1. Step 1 – Choose Course & SEVP-Approved University
    Select programs and universities in the USA that are approved by SEVP (Student and Exchange Visitor Program).
  2. Step 2 – Submit Applications
    Apply to your chosen universities with academic transcripts, English test scores, CV, SOP, and recommendations as required.
  3. Step 3 – Receive Offer & I-20
    Once admitted, the university will issue an Acceptance Letter and then your Form I-20, which is required for the F-1 visa application.

Phase 2: Visa Application (DS-160 & SEVIS)

  1. Step 4 – Pay SEVIS Fee (I-901)
    Pay the SEVIS fee using your SEVIS ID from the I-20. Keep the SEVIS fee payment receipt safely.
  2. Step 5 – Complete DS-160 Form
    Fill out the DS-160 online visa application form accurately and save the confirmation page with barcode.
  3. Step 6 – Create Profile & Pay Visa Fee
    Create a profile on the US visa appointment system for Bangladesh, select F-1 category, and pay the visa fee.
  4. Step 7 – Schedule Visa Interview
    Book your F-1 visa interview appointment at the US Embassy in Dhaka using your DS-160 and payment details.

Phase 3: Interview & Visa Decision

  1. Step 8 – Prepare Documents for Interview
    Organize your I-20, SEVIS receipt, DS-160 confirmation, appointment letter, academic papers, financial documents, passport photos and any supporting ties-to-home-country documents.
  2. Step 9 – Attend F-1 Visa Interview
    Attend your interview at the US Embassy in Dhaka. Answer clearly about your study plan, funding, and future goals.
  3. Step 10 – Visa Decision & Passport Collection
    After the interview, your visa will be approved, refused, or put under administrative processing. If approved, your passport will be returned with the F-1 visa stamped.
